Building Mosley Street in Manchester

  • SAY Carbon Yachts

n the heart of Manchester, on historic Mosley Street, stands a building that embodies the perfect symbiosis of past and future. Originally built in 1862 as the headquarters of the Manchester and Salford Bank, the building tells a fascinating story. Designed by Edward Walters, the architect of the famous Free Trade Hall, it reflects the splendor of the Victorian era. The historic building has been extensively renovated and now bears the name “Bond.” The name not only reflects the history of the building, but also the modern focus on collaboration and innovation. In collaboration with Arkoni, the main contractor, and the architect, we have installed 35 glazed fire doors and walls that combine functionality, design, and safety.

Our high-quality Hero-Fire® glass solution was used for this project:

  • 28 mm Hero-Fire® EI30 for facade frames and walls
  • 24 mm Hero-Fire® EI30 for door glazing
A total of 25.3 m² of glass was installed, consisting of 26 individual panes. Our glazing not only offers excellent fire protection, but also sound insulation of at least 43 dB. With our innovative solutions made from Hero-Fire® EI30 fire-resistant glass, we enable the highest safety standards, meet the aesthetic requirements of the project, and improve the functionality and comfort of the new offices.
The “Bond” project shows how modern fire protection solutions can be combined with historical charm without compromising on safety and design.

Westfield Hamburg

  • SAY Carbon Yachts

We supplied around 700 m² of custom-made glass solutions for the shopping centre in Hamburg's HafenCity, combining functional requirements with design details. Around 120 m² of laminated safety glass was used as balustrade glazing on the escalators, providing safe and unobtrusive protection.

Approximately 300 m² of colourful white glass was used in sliding and folding systems – complemented by curved and digitally printed elements that lend the shop windows additional elegance and individual accents.

In addition, around 180 m² of insulating glass with glazing bars was installed to structurally divide individual areas. Special attention was paid to the facade glazing: around 100 m² of large-format insulating glass was installed almost seamlessly and without visible fixings, creating a calm and homogeneous glass surface that meets the modern requirements of HafenCity.

Each individual glass element was made to measure and installed with precision to meet the technical and aesthetic requirements of the project.

  • 700 m² of custom-made glass solutions for facades, doors and interior areas.

  • 120 m² laminated safety glass as balustrade glazing on escalators

  • 300 m² white insulating glass for sliding and folding systems, complemented by curved & digitally printed elements

Johannes Helm School in Schwabach

  • SAY Carbon Yachts

As part of the extension of the Johannes Helm School in Schwabach, Hero Fire was involved in the fire-resistant glazing of the atrium in the new building.

Approximately 270 m² of EI30 and EI90 fire protection glass was installed as glass-to-glass structural glazing with flush butt joints. The frameless design creates a calm, continuous glass surface with a high level of transparency and generous daylight penetration. Partly stepped glazing and 90-degree corners emphasise the clear architectural lines and the modern character of the new building.

The construction project included the refurbishment of the existing school building (approx. 1.650 m²) and an extension of around 4.720 m². The result is a modern five-stream primary school with all-day facilities, cafeteria, administration and workshop areas, as well as a double sports hall with a mobile retractable grandstand.

TX Strijp, Eindhoven (NL)

The TX building on the Strijp-T site in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, has been undergoing extensive regeneration since mid-2023. The former Philips machine factory, built in 1956–57, forms the basis for the development of a modern multitenant commercial building. Measuring 270 metres in length and 67.5 metres in width, it is the longest factory ever built by Philips and a defining example of Dutch industrial architecture.

The aim of the renovation project is to preserve the architectural character of the existing structure whilst sustainably improving the building’s energy efficiency. In this context, Hero supplied more than 1,500 units of insulating glass with a total area of 3,126 m² and a total weight of over 78,000 kg to the client Kingspan Light + Air NL B.V., which is managing the project together with its client GEVA Vastgoed.

The Hero-Plus S was used, a double-glazed unit with thermal insulation specifically tailored to the requirements of energy-efficient refurbishment of existing buildings. The glazing contributes significantly to improving energy efficiency whilst helping to preserve the building’s industrial appearance.

The project illustrates how, through the targeted use of modern glazing solutions, historic industrial buildings can be transformed into contemporary, functional and sustainable spaces.

  • Hero-Plus S double-glazed units with thermal insulation

  • Over 1,500 double-glazed units

  • 3,126 m² of glazing

  • Total weight over 78,000 kg

  • Revitalisation of a historic Philips industrial building
